Mary Alice McDaniel ’35
Fondly remembered as a well-respected home economics teacher, Mary Alice Foster McDaniel ’35 strongly believed in the importance of education and spent her life providing educational opportunities for students. A 1935 graduate of Findlay College, McDaniel frequently spoke of her positive and enriching college experience. She was active as a student and participated in various choral activities.
From college, McDaniel was hired into the professional world of teaching, providing a lifetime of service. Outside of work, McDaniel’s sophisticated passion for knowledge sparked her interest in traveling. McDaniel and her husband became world-wide travelers and leisurely perused countries such as China, India, South America, Europe and Africa. In her later years, McDaniel satisfied her meticulous nature through games of bridge. She adored the game and kept her mind sharp by playing often.
Despite her passing on March 19, 2005, McDaniel continues to demonstrate her dedication to schooling and her alma mater, then Findlay College, through her establishment of the Mary Alice Foster McDaniel Scholarship Endowment Fund. Through her estate plan McDaniel named The University of Findlay as partial beneficiary of three commercial annuities, a life insurance policy, and her living trust. Her estate gifts totaled more than $119,500. The scholarship fund provides in excess of $6,900 in awards to financially deserving students each year.
