Text and note markings To identify important material and information still to be learned by using a variety of markings: underlining, double underlining, circling, enumerating, starring, question-in-the-margin  Provides a strategy for more efficient review later on.  Forces you to become a more active learner
Charts, maps or diagrams in texts and handouts To condense or clarify information Recreate charts, or use blank maps or diagrams to complete
Text Notes To identify instructor's focus Create test questions from the notes and then recite answers to strengthen your memory
Summaries To identify the main ideas Use as part of the preview before reading and as a learning guide for major concepts
